The main idea was an old roman bath close to a rich garden with a diverse pallet of plants, the whole image tock me about two full weeks of work.
I started with a simple idea 2 weeks ago and sketched it very quickly to get it to paper/pixel and used Maya to match my concept with some simple primitives, after that I started to research on what plants are actually growing in and around rome (like stone pines)
It consists of 669.148 tris rendered in Unreal, even though it wasen't running with a sufficient frame rate due to my rusty graphics card with 12 fps (1080p) that wasn't that much of a problem as long as I could get one image.
I used SpeedTree for all the foliage and Mayas Transfer Attributes to conform the vertex normals. Each part of the ruins was sculpted with ZBrush as well as the bricks and textured with SubstancePainter.
All textures are handmade or photographs ( leafs and tree bark)
Hope you like it as much as I enjoyed it to create it.
